Losing Blogger Series Part 2: Denver is a great city

As my second installment in the losing blogger series, thanks to my loss in the Rockies vs. DBacks blogging wager, I'm obligated (per the bet) to talk about the city of Denver. First, I must admit, that I don't know much about the city of Denver. I've travelled there a few times, and you've already read about one of those trips. The other trips were far less memorable, having to do primarily with business functions, and a lot less to do with exploring the city. But don't let my lack of hands-on experience with Denver deter you from thinking I don't know anything about the city. Quite the contrary. In college, for reasons not even clear to me, I had a strong desire to live in Denver once I graduated. Various factors resulted in me staying in Phoenix, but I did look into Denver with a great deal of interest.
What appealed to me about Denver is probably what appeals to most residents of Denver: endless recreation opportunities. I'm an avid mountain biker, and riding the trails that I've read about on Mountain Bike Review have always been appealing. The trails seem similar to what we have in Arizona, but with more altitude and more vertical. Over the years, I've ridden with many excellent Denver area cyclists that have come to visit Phoenix.
For most people, Denver area mountain biking isn't a year round sport, as there's this white stuff that falls on the trails and makes them rather trecherous. This is when another of my passions kicks in, however: skiing. Honestly, we have crappy skiing in Arizona. I've been fortunate to ski at Breckenridge and Keystone, which are simply awesome. I can't imagine living close enough to make day trips to the many great ski resorts outside of Denver. I'm thinking one or two of them may even be open right now as I blog this.
Along with biking and skiing, Denver also offers easy access to excellent hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, and camping locations. With so many choices, it has to be tough just deciding what to do next weekend.
All of this isn't to say that the city of Denver doesn't have anything to do without leaving town. Denver is a big time city, with all of the big 4 sports represented by the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, and Avalanche. That puts Denver among just 12 cities nationally that can lay that claim. But better yet, Denver has great sports fans, that are passionate and supportive of their team. For the pro sports fan, Denver has to be on your short list of cities to live in.
Congratulations again to the fans of the Colorado Rockies. I look forward to watching a great series between Colorado and Boston.

Steve Belt - You are definitely right about the endless recreation opportunities in Denver. There is something new to do almost every day. And we share the riding interest. Although I am sure you do much more winter riding than I.
Steve and Steve, this was a great idea! Steve B, you really should try biking at 10,000 feet. People up here love it!
Joanne - The wager was Steve B’s idea, so I can’t take any credit for that. He was an excellent guest though.
