Well, today I need to deviate from the norm here, for a few moments anyway. I generally keep this blog focused on Denver real estate or local happenings/information about the various Denver areas that I work in. But there is this on-going Tag game going on in the real estate blog world and I have been tagged by Phoenix agent Steve Belt. Now Steve Belt and I are acquainted due to our Rockies - D-Backs playoffs blogging wager. In case you missed it - he lost - and guest authored on my blog for 3 posts telling all of us how great Denver is. Steve was a great sport about it and really posted some quality Denver pieces, so due to that, I feel a little, shall we say, obligated, to play along with his game.
So basically this particular Meme Tag goes something like this - I need to list 7 things about myself and then tag 7 people to do the meme on themselves including a link to their site.
So here are 7 things I bet you never knew about Steve Scheer (unless you already know me well).
1. I am a Denver Native. Born in Denver at Mercy Hospital and still live here. There were 2 periods of time that I lived elsewhere than the Denver area.
2. The first time I left Denver for longer than a vacation I was in my early 20's - my best friend and I decided we were going to Hollywood, California to get discovered. Brad was going to be a rock star. Me, a movie star. Back then, I had really great hair. And we all know most movie stars are all about the hair. We lived in complete poverty for about a year in a small disgusting apartment in Orange County. I did manage to land a job as a bouncer at some hoppin' club and I did one day get introduced to the right people and brought backstage of a set to meet some producers. I never followed up on that. I guess I was destined to become a real estate blogger! Those 12 months were some of the best memories of my crazy youth. We went home when we got hungry.
3. The next time I left was to join the Air Force. That's right, after basic training, I served as an Air Traffic Controller. My last assignment was in Washington State at McChord Air Force Base. If I had not met my now-wife on a visit home, there is a chance that the Seattle area could have become my home. Just an unbelievably beautiful place. We did visit Seattle about 9 or 10 years ago. My youngest wasn't born yet and my oldest was still in a stroller. It rained (well, actually poured) 99.8% of the time we were there. I have to admit that I was curious if she would love it as much as I did. As I sat in the hotel room one night watching her blow-dry the stroller because it was dripping wet from the rain and muttering bad words under her breath about the torrential down pours, I knew it would never happen. The sun came out as we were on the way to the airport.
4. Due to #3, I am an excellent flying companion. If you are on a plane with me, you will see that I am the geek with the headphones on. I say geek, because no, I am not listening to my Ipod. When available I am listening to the broadcast of the air traffic controllers and the pilot. I understand every word they say. So, if you are flying with me and you feel uneasy, take a look at me. If I am calm, you can be calm. There really was only one time that my wife got very nervous after looking at me. We were circling over Denver one July in the afternoon - prime thunderstorm time. They couldn't land us due to dangerous wind sheer and lightening. Circle. Circle. Circle. DIA wasn't landing anyone. I knew we couldn't circle much longer. The pilot kept telling them he couldn't circle forever. Finally I was able to easily hear his complete panic as he demanded to land right now or be re-routed to Gunnison immediately (Colorado Springs was not taking planes either due to the storm). We didn't go to Gunnison. Lets just say it was the worst landing of my life and it truly was the only time I was very nervous about the outcome. I think my wife & I were the only ones on the plane (besides the crew) that knew how bad it was.
5. Due to 2, 3, and 4 being so detailed - I get a free pass on number 5.
6. I really don't like fish. To eat that is. I like to fish, very much actually. I love the smell of salt water and fish markets. But I don't like to eat them. I am not sure why, I just can't do it.
7. I have discovered sports as an adult that I did not participate in as a child. I am now a skier, a regular bike rider and a skater - soon to be hockey player.
So there are your 7 facts and peek into my life.
As for the tagging of someone else, I am going to bestow a gift on my fellow bloggers and say, if you feel like writing a meme, consider yourself tagged.

Very nice, Steve. We share the adult sports things in common. I discovered mountain biking at 33, while I was a youngster of 25, when I first skied.
And funny you mention taking your wife to Seattle. I grew up in Portland, and have taken my wife there several times. It always rains when she’s there…
We did the Portland thing as well, it was a bit more recently. The weather there was actually very nice, similar to Denver in fact & we had a fabulous time. But then our 4th of July weekend in Canon Beach wearing fleece or wind breakers and having to have wind blocks on the beach instead of sun umbrellas - well - let’s just say she had a good time but the great North West is just not her thing.
