So this week was our big winter storm. Thursday blizzard conditions blew into Denver and gave us a winter wonderland, in the spring. While the word blizzard was used here and there, and there definitely were blizzard conditions for a few hours, when all was said and done – it was a nice sized storm but we certainly have seen bigger in Denver.
By 8:00am Friday it seemed that the snow had stopped at my home in Highlands Ranch. Exact measurements were difficult because of the extreme wind that occurred – some areas of my yard were almost bare where others had drifts close to 3 feet. But I would say the actual snow fall in my yard was between 10 and 12 inches. And by 9 am the sun began to shine and the sky was a beautiful blue – all making the remains of our spring storm in Denver a delightful winter wonderland.
Friday for us consisted of some shoveling, sledding and just playing outdoors. My kids spent most of Saturday sledding as well. My wife had to drag the kids in for sunscreen on their faces because that strong Denver sun would be unforgiving with the reflection on the snow.
I personally have been behind in updating this site, and partly to blame was a problem I was having uploading images to the site. But all is well now, largely thanks to my friend Jay The Phoenix Real Estate Guy.
So, to test that my images upload I thought I would test it out with some photos of the storm this week.
My wife Laura took this photo and was kind enough to let me use it here. She was one of the many that had an early release from work on Thursday and her 15 minute drive became over 2 hours. She said sitting in traffic behind the snow plow/mag chloride truck was a highlight as there was another on her right and she felt thoroughly protected from all the slip & sliders.
Next we have my pooch that wanted to stay out all night and play in the snow. He was up nice & early wanting to go right back out. As I write this, he sites beside me in pure exhaustion from his 3 days of non-stop play in the snow.![]()
And lastly we have some sledders that have been sledding non-stop for 2 days. The kids everywhere seem to really delight in this spring storm – as it has been quite a dry winter here and they just haven’t had their regular winter snow time.
If you are moving to Denver, you will soon realize that these spring storms are gone almost as fast as they blow in – the great melt has begun and within a few days our snow fun will be a memory.
