Where Can I go to get Fresh Local Fruits and Veggies in Denver?
To the Farmers Market!
While the area farmers markets have been active for some time now (generally since May), it is the weeks to come in the near future where the real treats start showing up here in the Denver metro area. This is what I call real summertime Denver Living!
The cherries have already started arriving and are pretty much past their peak, but the first of my family’s real favorites will be the Rocky Ford
Cantaloupes. That has to be my kids favorite farmer’s market day to see the giant trucks from Rocky Ford local farms pull in to the Highlands Ranch farmers market. The guys stand up in the truck and help everyone pick out their cantaloupes.
After that we will see some giant Palisade peaches and what I call “the greens” will start arriving – local beans, peppers, lettuces.. Not long after that the tomatoes and the Olathe corn start arriving.
There is more than the farm at the local Denver Farmers Markets, flowers, herbs, pastries, breads and more – but its the fruit & veggies that are what draws everyone in – because local Colorado produce is great!!
While the weekend Denver markets have been in full swing – just in the last week or two you have seen more markets opening up during the week. They will continue through the peak season.
I had a Denver relocation client ask me this week as we drove by a Denver farmer’s market, if there were many of them around town. That reminded me that while I have posted on the Highlands Ranch Town Center Farmer’s Market before, I didn’t have a current list of many of the Farmer’s Market throughout the south Denver metro area.
Here are some of the local Denver Farmer’s Markets & Colorado Fresh Markets for 2010 in Denver and the south suburbs. In addition to this list, a few of the markets now offer a Street Market (3rd Sunday in Southwest Plaza and 1st Sunday in Highlands Ranch Town Center) that sell homemade arts and crafts and even some clothing.
