Day 19 | High Line Canal Trail in the South Denver Suburbs
On Day 19 of 365 Things To Do in South Denver Suburbs we are going to hop on our bike and take a ride on the High Line Canal Trail throughout the Denver suburbs. One of the great parts of living in Denver is the countless outdoor recreation opportunities available, and the trail system is no exception to that.
The High Line Canal trail runs for 66 miles through the south Denver area from Waterton Canyon all the way northeast toward the Green Valley Ranch area in Aurora. It is accessible from numerous spots along the way and can be used to get to other parts of the Denver area as it crosses other trail systems and neighborhoods. It runs through Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Greenwood Village, Cherry Hills Village, Denver and Aurora. The trail is owned by Denver water and managed by multiple counties and parks departments.
These particular photos were taken in the early spring on a day that reminds me that spring is just about here and it will be summer in a flash.
And here we are today, on the last day of July, looking August in the face. If you haven’t yet taken that bike out and gone for a ride on the High Line Canal – you should do it today, because before you know it , those leaves will be turning and falling and you will wish you had.
This area of the trail runs through Greenwood Village, particularly the Green Oaks and Greenwood Acres neighborhoods and is one of my favorite parts of the trail.
When you are riding (or walking even) on the High Line Canal trail, it is quite enjoyable to also get a glimpse of the beautiful Denver luxury homes that run through the neighborhoods, particularly in Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills Village.
Updated: Since Waterton Canyon was mentioned, this is the last weekend for quite some time you will be able to visit Waterton Canyon. The project to renovate and clean Strontia Springs Reservoir begins next week so the canyon will be closed for approximately 18 months.
