Day 28 Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games

Day 28 | Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games | Highlands Ranch Colorado

For Day 28 of 365 Things to Do in the South Denver Suburbs we are going to already be thinking about this weekend and plan ahead (yes, I know its Monday, but this is worth planning for) and as a favorite annual event is coming up.  This weekend is the Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games – right here in Highlands Ranch at Heritage Park.

The Colorado Scottish Festival attracts folks from all over and this year will be no different. It will be running this year August 14 9am – 10 pm & August 15th 9 am – 5 pm in Heritage Park – Highlands Ranch at Quebec and Lincoln (behind the Post Office).  Chances are good you will not be parking there though (parking on site is $20 & fills early), there will be shuttles running from area schools with free parking & free shuttle – look for signs as you drive toward the festival.  Years past have had the shuttles at Rocky Heights Middle School or Rock Canyon High School.

Admission at the gate is $17 for adults and $12 for kids 12 & under but if you are reading this today  -  you can still purchase advance tickets until August 11th through the event website – $15 for adults & $10 kids and $40 family pass.  Saturday tickets include extra long admission with music in the evening until 10 pm.

Some of the favorites at the festival include Sottish Highland Dancing, Highland Games, music – bag pipes and drums and of course all the kilts.  On Sunday there will be a British car display.  Kids tend to love the music, dancing, games and of course the food.  Full events schedule of the Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games is here.

If you have never been or are new to the Denver area, this is one festival you will want to check out.

I was searching online on Flickr for a Creative Commons photo to use here, wasn’t finding what I wanted and turned to YouTube. Glad I did as I found an amazing short documentary called Kids in Kilts about the Colorado Youth Pipe Band that plays at the Colorado Scottish Festival and other competitions & events. Very impressive group of kids that I will be looking forward to hearing this weekend. The video is a little long, 9 minutes, but worth it.

Enjoy!
