Day 50 | Plan Your Labor Day Weekend Ski Sale Snowboard Shopping

It is only appropriate that on Day 50 of 365 Things to Do in South Denver Suburbs – a milestone of some sorts at Day 50 – we plan for one of the favorite activities of those that live in the Denver area.  We are going to plan or ski and snow board sale shopping for the 2010 – 2011 ski season.

Labor Day weekend has long been known for ski and snow shop sales in the Denver area. Yet it seems like every year they start earlier and earlier with more marketing campaigns to get us in the door, providing many great deals for all of us.  Most merchandise at the deepest discounts is last years lines of the winter sports equipment, but new unless noted.

One thing I learned early on in our ski shopping life - know what you need and bring everyone in the family along.  It is easy to get a bit overwhelmed by the quantity of what is avaialable, and sometimes the crowds.  It is much easier to avoid getting off track and over spending by having a pretty narrow list of what your ski and board supplies include this year.  Also, we used to leave the kids at home.  Big mistake – much easier to try on the mittens and ski pants if everyone is there and save yourself returns trips.

Here’s just a few of the places you should check out this week.  Know of others?  Feel free to leave them in the comments.

Sports Authority – SNIAGRAB Sale Begins September 4
This infamous sale brings out of towners to Denver for the weekend and dates back to the days when Sports Authority was Gart Brothers – in fact this year marks the 56th year of this sale.

Sniagrab quite simply put is Bargains spelled backwards.  This very well may be the original of the Labor Day ski sales in Denver.  Sniagrab is not at all Sports Authority locations – you will find it at the Denver Sportscastle, Boulder – Bowles/Littleton, Parker, Ft Collins and Colorado Springs.  While the sale officially begins on Sept 4, I do believe there is early bird shopping, so it would be worth a call to inquire.

Colorado Ski & Golf – Ski-Rex Sale Sept 4 – Sept 19 with early bird for preferred customers 9/2
The Labor Day Ski Sale at Colorado Ski and Golf is actually one of our families favorites as they carry some of the brads of ski & board clothes that our kid’s prefer to wear. Any savings in this area is appreciated as these items can get pricey.  The Ski-Rex sale has a sign up area for preferred customers to get you in the sale early on 9/2 with special offerings.

Christy Sports – Powder Daze – Sept 3 – 12 at 8691 Park Meawdows Parkway (in the old CompuUSA Building)
This sale is in one location only but is a huge space jammed backed with items.  On top of all that, there are lift deals to be found & is worth stopping by.

Eskimo Ski & Golf – Centennial at County Line Road & Holly
No advertised sales on the site as of right now – but not to be overlooked.  This locally owned and long standing Denver business knows what they need to do to stay competitive  provide great service on top of reasonable prices.  We have been shopping at Eskimo for some time, have purchased season ski rental here in the past and its worth the visit.

This is also the weekend to start looking at inquiring and perhaps even signing agreements for season long equipment lease.   In addition to all of the shops already noted, you also may want to look at season rentals at Lenny’s Ski & Golf. This is a smaller shop but if you get here early enough in the season, you are sure to find some great equipment to rent at more than fair prices.
