Day 48 | Denver Area Farmer’s Markets

On Day 48 we are going to visit a local Denver area Farmer’s Market. So many of the fresh fruits and veggies that are available right here in Colorado are at their peak – if you have not been visiting a local farmer’s market, you are missing out!  Some of the great produce you will find right now is corn, peaches, melons, beans – and so much more.

Over here in the Scheer house – we have really been enjoying the corn lately – several times a week we have feasted on both the Olathe sweet corn and then the peaches & cream variety.  Both so good.  We also love the peaches from Palisade – the giant ones are in now.  And we can’t get enough of the wonderful cantaloupes and watermelons from Rocky Ford, CO.

High School Football in Highlands Ranch, CO – ThunderRidge, Mountain Vista, Rock Canyon and Highlands Ranch High Schools

First I want to say that this is not a post about the Highlands Ranch High School Football team.  It is is about ALL of the high school football teams in Highlands Ranch – ThunderRidge HS, Rock Canyon, Mountain Vista HS and of course, Highlands Ranch HS.

My family loves to watch the high school football games from all of the high schools in Highlands Ranch at Shea Stadium.  Do we have a favorite?  Of course we do!  But you will only find out if you see us there cheering – especially if its one of the games where the schools from Highlands Ranch play each other.

Attending local high school football games are a great way to get introduced to the community if you have recently moved to Highlands Ranch.  You will likely see a neighbor or two, cheer on your local talented athletes and have a great time at an affordable price.  Tickets for all of the games can be purchased at the schools in advance or at the ticket window on games days, however many games do sell out!

All Home games for all 4 high schools are held at Shea Stadium to the west of Redstone Park in Highlands Ranch – just east of Santa Fe Dr on Town Center.

Day 44 | Colorado Parade of Ponds | Metro Denver & The Denver Suburbs

Day 44 we are going to plan ahead to make sure garden, landscaping  and pond enthusiasts get this on their calendar – this weekend is the Colorado Parade of Ponds.

The Colorado Parade of Ponds will take place August 28th and 29th from 9 am – 5pm on Saturday and 11 am – 5:oo pm on Sunday.   Tickets are $25 for a guided luxury bus tour (Saturday only) or $15 for a self guided tour (children under 15 are free).

The Colorado Parade of Ponds highlights many beautiful ponds (about 50) throughout the metro Denver area, some here in the south Denver suburbs – others will be  in other parts of the Denver area.  When you purchase your tickets you will receive a map of the entire route.

Parade participants are all trying to win the infamous “Froggy Awards” in different categories and there will b ballots for the tour-goers to participate in the voting.  Some of the categories include Best Fish, Best Water Quality, Best Overall Landscape, and more.  The Colorado Parade of Ponds is such a great way to get ideas for your own home.  Or perhaps it will get you dreaming of the new features you want in your own yard of your next home in the Denver area.  You certainly won’t be limited by ideas.

Proceeds from this year’s Colorado Parade of Ponds go to a variety of charities, including The Children’s Hospital, Praying Hands Ranch, North America Water garden Society and more.  Tickets for the Coloraod Parade of Ponds can be purchase at a variety of landscaping and outdoor stores & attractions throughout metro Denver such as: Arapahoe Acres, Hudson Gardens, Tagawa Garden Supply, Timberline Gardens,  Enery Water Gardens, and Nick’s Garden Center.

Day 39 and 40 Littleton CO’s Western Welcome Week Highlighting Saturday Parade and Festival Day

Western Welcome Week is beginning to wrap up but don’t we always save the best for last?  I have already written about how much I love Littleton’s Western Welcome Week – but here comes some of my own family’s favorites!  The highlight of the week is about to happen tomorrow, Saturday with the Parade & Festival Day – but first there are many fun events for tomorrow as well.  I am making this a 2 day post – as it is all that good!

Day 39 – Friday 8/20

Today’s highlights include the on going Bag of Books sale at the Bemis Library.  While you are there, walk across the street to the beautiful and historic Littleton Museum which also celebrated a big milestone this week with their 40th Anniversary Celebration.  The Juried Art Exhibit continues in the Depot Art Center and there is also a Quilt Show at the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton.  The evening events will be a great time with an Hometown Pig Roast at the Littleton Elks Lodge and a western concert – “How the West Was Sung” by the Littleton Chorale at the Littleton United Methodist Church.

Day 40 – Saturday 8/21 – Festival Day!!!

This is the grand event in my eyes – a whole day of nothing but Littleton fun for the entire family.  Through all of this – there will be a Blood Drive going on in Bega Park with The Children’s Hospital Blood Mobile, so be sure to stop by and donate blood if you can!

Breakfast & Children’s Firefighter Parade
In the early morning there is a  western breakfast at Littleton United Methodist Church but then hustle over to Main Street as registration for the very popular annual Children’s Firefighter Parade begins at 7:30 am with the actual parade portion beginning at 8:30.  This is a one of a kind with kids of all ages walking and on skates, bikes, motorized vehicles, and even with leashed pets (if you will be on wheels – don’t forget your helmet!)

Grand Parade & Festival
Shortly following the Children’s Firefighters Parade is the Grand Parade - which is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am. Plan to get their early to claim your spot – I can tell you from experience that the spots on the shady side of the street go fast!  The Parade will begin at Gallup and Littleton Blvd and continue down Littleton Blvd as it turns into Main St through downtown Littleton.

Immediately following the parade, plan to stay for the Arts and Crafts Show as part of Festival Day.  There are always many local artist and then there is the food & fun as well as music and entertainment all day. Another big draw is the sneak peak of the Haunted Mansion at the Reinke Bros. shop.

Evening Activities

If you have any energy left after a full day of fun, head over to Big Papa’s for a BBQ & music or another performance of the Littleton Chorale - How the West Was Sung or perhaps you have scored tickets to The Love List at the Littleton Town Hall Arts Center.
