Time to Make Reservations For Denver Restaurant Week

Have you always wanted to dine at one of Denver’s best restaurants but just couldn’t fit it into your budget?  Well, once again this year, now is your chance.

Denver restaurant week is back.  This is an opportunity to purchase pre selected meals at some of Denver’s finest and most delicious restaurants.  I have done this for the past several years and my wife and I have never been disappointed!  It makes for a wonderful date night. The selections are scrumptious and the chance to dine at some of these great restaurants is worth the price and them some. It’s a bargain at many restaurants for 2 meals for $52.80! You will get to taste why these restaurants are considered the best. Plus, I have found the selections offered for restaurant week won’t disappoint in either quality or quantity.  It really is a deal.  And once again, it is not just one week but 2. Dining dates begin February 25th and run through March 5th, 2012.

Menus will be out January 17th exclusively on the Visit Denver Facebook page and then on the Denver Restaurant week site after January 22nd.  So if you have always had the idea of a very special dinner then make sure to sign up and be ready, some of the restaurants will get completely booked up rather quickly.  And if you are just relocating to the Denver area, this is a fabulous way to get acquainted with some of Colorado’s best restaurants. I just read today that Arrow Electronics, a worldwide leader in computer and consumer electronics will move it’s corporate headquarters to Arapahoe County in mid November.  Arrow already has an operation here in the Inverness Business Park near Centennial Airport with around 1000 employees.  Now, Arrow Electronics will transform this location into it’s headquarters!

Why is this important of even news!  Jobs.  At least the potential for jobs over the next several years. Colorado could gain around 1250 jobs from this move.  In fact, Colorado is working to recruit other companies that supply Arrow Electronics to relocate here as well.  Things aren’t all doom and gloom.

And why shouldn’t these companies move here?  Colorado is business friendly, we benefit from an incredible climate that employees come to love very quickly.  Housing statistics in the area are stable and mixed with great schools and plenty of entertainment, companies stand the chance to have very happy, productive employees to drive the business into the future.

So congratulations to Arrow Electronics for their wise move and the decision to make Colorado their corporate home!

Highlands Ranch Farmer’s Market Begins Today in Town Center

Today, May 1st, 2011 is the kick off date of the 2001 Farmer Market season in Highlands Ranch Town Center. Head up at 10:00 am until 2:00 pm this morning to see what is new this year.

Of course it will be some time until the local fruits and veggies are all at its peak but there are still a variety of vendors there now to get you started.  The organization that serves the Highlands Ranch Farmer’s Market is the Metro Denver Farmer’s Market and you can find their other locations listed here: Metro Denver Farmers Market

One vendor that became one of our families favorites this past season was the Bavarian Sausage Express. They have all kinds of brats & sausages that are pre-cooked and are delicious when finished up on the grill.  My family is hoping they will be there today on opening day as that is what we are heading up for.   The several bakeries with pastries, desserts and breads are great too.  You can see a full list of the 2011 Highlands Ranch Farmer’s Market vendors on the HRCA website.

Of course once the summer gets rolling we love the melons, lettuce, tomatoes, beans and of course the corn.

Across the street today at Highlands Ranch Town Center North you will also see the Highlands Ranch Street Market, that runs the same time as the Farmer’s market but only on the 1st Sunday of the month.  There you will find vendors with local arts  and crafts and other similar items.

Highlands Ranch Substation for Douglas County Sheriff Opens

It has been considered for a long time. It has been studied, planned and budgeted for in great detail. It has been carefully designed and built and finally it is here! What is this you say? The new Douglas County Sheriff substation in Highlands Ranch, CO.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s office serves a large area of land to protect the citizens. Although the entire county needs the support of the Sheriff’s Office, the largest population density is in Highlands Ranch. The resources needed and the facility needed in Highlands Ranch has been clear for some time. I believe the figures quoted from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in savings over time, just on resources alone, will be hundreds of thousands of dollars compared to traveling to and from the justice facility in Castle Rock.

A few weeks ago the Sheriff’s Office held a ribbon cutting and opening ceremony at the new substation. I had the opportunity to attend and it is very impressive. It is a top notch, technologically modern facility. The Sheriff’s Office graciously opened it’s doors and allowed folks to tour and ask questions. Many of the deputies were available to demonstrate various places in the substation, and yes that included the jails, or holding cells.

There were law enforcement officials from many different jurisdictions, both local and federal. Some presently serving and some retired as well as dignitaries from local government and business leaders. All a testament to the outstanding work of the Sheriff’s Department and the staff that had the vision and seen the plan through for this outstanding new sub station.

New Highlands Ranch Business Opens This Week

As a Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce member, I try to get to as many business events in Highlands Ranch as I can.  Yesterday was the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for BTO Frozen Yogurt.

Owner, Jack Doyle was a terrific host for the grand opening event. Due to his generosity, part of the proceeds on March 16th will be donated to the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation. This foundation is designed to assist people living with epilepsy live more independent lives by providing seizure-response dogs and epilepsy monitors to those in need, along with providing education and support to the community. Chelsea Hutchison was a Highlands Ranch teenager, who died unexpectedly after having a seizure.

BTO Yogurt is located in the Eastridge shopping area, just east of the King Soopers. If you haven’t been to a frozen yogurt place yet, you really should try it.  There are many flavors of very delicious yogurt to choose from and tons of tasty toppings to make it a special treat.  I noticed they even have Nutella flavor yogurt. I didn’t try it, but my son LOVES Nutella and now he can’t wait to get to BTO to try some!
