Day 15 | Cantina Laredo, Streets at Southglenn, Centennial CO

On Day 15 of 365 Things to Do in South Denver Suburbs, I propose that you head over to the Streets at Southglenn in Centennial CO to the newly opened Cantina Laredo restaurant.

My wife and I visited Cantina Laredo this weekend for a short visit before a movie at the Southglenn Hollywood Theater.  We did not stay very long, by design – just popped in for a quick bite before needing to move on.

The atmosphere at the brand new Centennial restaurant was great, our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful in choosing our snack and service was prompt. We didn’t sit inside nor on the outdoor patio, instead we grabbed a table in between that was almost like a sunroom – enclosed but nearly outside.

Since we didn’t eat a full meal, I can’t comment extensively on the food but I can say that both salsas brought to our table were great and our nachos were not your typical chips in a mound on a plate where there is empty chips at the bottom.  In stead it was one layer of chips with each chip covered generously in toppings.   As I said, we split them, were not looking for a full meal, and it was the perfect amount for us.

I love patio dining and because of the great Denver weather almost all year round, its one of the things that those of us that live in Denver can enjoy frequently.  A restaurant with a great patio can do rather well on those warmer early spring days – that we all enjoy, not just in the summer months.

The patio at Cantina Laredo restaurant has great potential, the Streets at Southglenn is a very nice area and with the movie theater there as well, there is a great draw to pop in before or after a show.

Day 10 Merles, Littleton Colorado

On Day 10 of 365 Things to Do in South Denver Suburbs we are going to eat at one of the best patios on the Denver Suburbs, at Merle’s in the Littleton neighborhood of downtown Littleton.  Merle’s is a fantastic place to dine out on the patio and enjoy the food and scenery. And that is one of the great things about living in Denver, the outdoor dining!  Even if you visit and the patio is full or its one of our rainy afternoons we’ve been having – the inside is pretty great too!

Merle’s is a great family restaurant in the south Denver suburbs that has been opened for almost 2 years now in what originally was a gas station in downtown Littleton and was later an automotive garage.

The garage theme is still apparent and used to it’s advantage – the giant garage doors now open to make the restaurant downstairs part of the downtown Littleton scene.  Its one of its big plus points.

The upstairs patio is fantastic, with umbrella seating and flowers everywhere – its just a nice, affordable restaurant with great food, great prices and perfect for the whole family.

Some of the things I have had a Merle’s and loved are: Rocky Mount Burger, Ribs, Brisket, Spinach Salad, Mark’s Burger.  My kid’s are big fans of the Wings, Nachos and Root Beer Floats.  We have not yet been to the weekend brunch, but that is on the To-Do List.

If you are looking for something to do on the weekends, check out the event calendar as well, many Friday and Saturday evenings include a band at Merle’s.  During peak hours you probably will wait for a table, but its worth it.

So for those late to the party – it may not be too late to make some great reservations for Mother’s Day dining in the Denver area for this Sunday.

Last year we spent much of Mother’s Day on a soccer field due to make-up games from previous spring snow – but this year we have lucked out and we will be treating my wife to some serious pampering.

Are you looking for something to do this weekend to honor St. Patrick’s Day in Highlands Ranch?  Well, besides celebrating with traditional “green beer” and shepherd’s pie, why not try the 5th annual St. Patrick’s Day 5k Walk/Run in Highlands Ranch.  This is one of the Highlands Ranch run series certified races.  You can register here for this race online.  Whether or not you’re an experienced runner or just out for fun with the family, this event is sure to please.

However, if St. Patrick’s Day means partying like a leprechaun to you, then maybe swing over to Town Center and visit Lansdowne Arms where you will certainly enjoy delicious Irish food and drink.  I know you can get traditional shepherd’s pie here and plenty of beverages.  I’ve had it and it is very good!

So get out, celebrate and enjoy this St. Patrick’s Day here in Highlands Ranch.  Remember to be safe, responsible and have fun!  I have always been a fan of St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Denver, and tomorrow will be no exception.

My Favorite Week is Now 2 Weeks! Denver Restaurant Week

Denver Restaurant Week is an annual event – a Denver favorite for many locals.  Personally I see it as a chance to get out in different parts of town and try a new local scene or re-visit past favorites at an appealing price.  Many of the restaurants that participate offer a fixed menu and all offerings are at a set price of $52.80 for 2.  – is just around the corner. And in fact in most participating restaurants it will be running for two weeks – from February 20 – March 5th.

Some of my favorites (some are long time favorites!) that you may want to consider trying this year -
