Time to Make Reservations For Denver Restaurant Week

Have you always wanted to dine at one of Denver’s best restaurants but just couldn’t fit it into your budget?  Well, once again this year, now is your chance.

Denver restaurant week is back.  This is an opportunity to purchase pre selected meals at some of Denver’s finest and most delicious restaurants.  I have done this for the past several years and my wife and I have never been disappointed!  It makes for a wonderful date night. The selections are scrumptious and the chance to dine at some of these great restaurants is worth the price and them some. It’s a bargain at many restaurants for 2 meals for $52.80! You will get to taste why these restaurants are considered the best. Plus, I have found the selections offered for restaurant week won’t disappoint in either quality or quantity.  It really is a deal.  And once again, it is not just one week but 2. Dining dates begin February 25th and run through March 5th, 2012.

Menus will be out January 17th exclusively on the Visit Denver Facebook page and then on the Denver Restaurant week site after January 22nd.  So if you have always had the idea of a very special dinner then make sure to sign up and be ready, some of the restaurants will get completely booked up rather quickly.  And if you are just relocating to the Denver area, this is a fabulous way to get acquainted with some of Colorado’s best restaurants. Howdy Folks!  It’s just about mid January here in Denver and that can only mean one (of many) things.  It’s Denver stock show time.  Actually, it is more than halfway though the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo here in Denver, which is why you need to go and check it out.  If you have never been to a rodeo or up close with real livestock and cowboys, then you are in for a real treat!

This is the real deal.  These animals are huge, beautiful and a bit intimidating to a city slicker like myself.  Never fear, there is always the smaller animals for the kids of the more intimidated big kids.  As far as the rodeo goes, these are the best of the best competing here.  There are rodeo’s for all types of fun, including ProRodeo featuring some of the world’s best bronco and bull riders.  This is a thrill to see live if you haven’t ever seen it.  The power of the animals is stunning and the courage and strength of the riders is awesome.  The skills of the horseback riders is amazing and of course, the clowns.  They bring us a laugh but also serve a very vital role in the protection of the cowboys.  Their courage behind the mask is incredible.

The stock show has something entertaining for everyone.  Cowboy or not, it is a lot of fun!

I have noticed in just the past few days I am receiving a large amount of traffic to my site here from search terms like, Christmas lights in Weatherstone, House in Weatherstone with Xmas Lights, Dancing Christmas Lights in Weatherstone…. and so on. And they folks are finding posts that I wrote in previous years about the spectacular home in the Weatherstone neighborhood of Highlands Ranch on Meyerwood with a fabulous Christmas lights display that is choreographed to music.

So apparently people want to know if its up again this year, 2011.

I happen to drive by the other day, during the day, and lights were in the yard. So yes, it appears to be a go.  I will make an attempt to drive by this evening and see if they are on yet. But my guess is yes.  I will update here with more info when I have it. updated – yes, the display is on & wonderful!

I will also be posting a list of other great homes in Highlands Ranch that are decked out with lights for the holidays and all over the Denver area, so watch for that too.

Friday, November 11, 2011 is Veteran’s Day.  A day to honor and pay tribute to those who have served our country and still serve. A day to take a moment or two to be grateful for the armed services of our country and the mission to protect us and keep us free.

There will be many celebrations and ceremonies everywhere honoring our veterans. Many public and some very private.  Highlands Ranch has a ceremony planned at the second floor of the Highlands Ranch Library, just adjacent to the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument. All are welcome to attend this ceremony celebrating our nation’s veterans.

Highlands Ranch is a wonderful place to live for many reasons.  I love to live here. The people and the community make it very special.  The veteran’s monument is a great gift to the community and a great place to visit, reflect and honor those that have served.   As a veteran myself, I’m proud of the monument and the community that celebrates this gift of freedom.

Late October in Denver is an unpredictable time of the year for the weather.  Recently we had temperatures in the  80′s , then snow and freeze!  Always interesting.

So are you prepared for this winter like change in the weather?  Have you taken care of some of the fall maintenance projects around your house yet? I wrote about some of those fall maintenance tips earlier, so you can review them again if you would like.  But now we have to assume it will begin to freeze again at any time and there are even more things to check on.

Let’s start with the furnace.  It may have been awhile since you ran yours, but it won’t be long until it is running a lot.  First, check the filter and make sure it is clean or just change it for a new one.  If you have the disposable type like most do, go to the local home improvement store and get several for the winter.  They usually run less than a dollar each and try to change them monthly.  Also, if you have a humidifier attached to your furnace, make sure to properly set it up for the season, including checking or changing filters, turn on the water line and make sure the damper is set for winter.

Since you will be running the furnace more with the house closed up for the cold, make sure to have working carbon dioxide detectors in your home within 15 feet from all bedrooms.  It is very important for you and your family’s safety. It is also a great time to check smoke detectors and change batteries.

Outside your home, if you haven’t blown out the sprinkler system yet, it is a good time to do that.  Repairs can get costly next spring if your system gets damaged due to freeze.  Not to mention having a yard all dug up.  Do you have snow shovels, ice melt, and gas for a snow blower if you have one?  While your at the home improvement store picking up those furnace filters you may want to get a bottle of the oil mix for the snow blower gas.  Once the snow starts to fly the supply often sells out.
