After nearly 3 months for my children to play in all of the pools of the Highlands Ranch Community Association, I asked my children this morning which were their favorites this year. You have just a few days, and in the case of Westridge - today, to enjoy the outdoor pools.
Here is my kids recap:
Both of the kids loved the Eastridge Outdoor Pool. First place no doubt. It seemed to have the most options, with a bit deeper water, possibilities for lap swimming, racing each other down the side by side slides and then escaping indoors for the giant slide.
Neither was willing to put the Northridge pool at the top of the list - they said it was great when they were a bit younger as the kiddie pool was better than most but they felt that the teenagers "own" the Northridge pool, so they would wait a few more years to call that their home.
The Westridge Pool was a toss up. My daughter still seems to enjoy the slide there but my son is ready to move on to bigger & better things. The Westrdge Outdoor Pool has a zero entry and is pretty shallow all around - its great for a quick dip in the neighborhood or for those with little ones to keep a close eye on.
Southridge did get thumbs up from both kids, and they both agreed it could be a second place winner. They couldn't really put their finger on it but I am sure it had something to do with being able to escape inside to the lazy river.
The pools are closing this weekend and by Tuesday all of the HRCA outdoor pools will be closed. You can view the schedule here. If you live in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood with its own private pool, you may have a little more time, depending on the neighborhood. Some of those will stay open through the month of September, weather permitting.
Next week I will ask my kids to help me write a review on the indoor pools.

High School Football in Highlands Ranch is big. Really big. With 4 high schools in the area, 3 of them play each other in football and as you
can imagine the rivalries get big. You know I love attending football if you read my post bout football in Highlands Ranch last year as well.
Fall is crisp with cool mornings and breezy nights and the lights at Shea stadium in Highlands Ranch are on Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights through the end of October.
High School Football in Highlands Ranch is a chance for my own family to get out together for some affordable family bonding & fun and cheer on the teams. Gotta Love it!
Here are the varsity schedules for the 4 high schools in Highlands Ranch for the 2008 Fall Season. Most tickets can be bought at the door, but for big games, contact the schools to buy them in advance - especially some of the cross town rival games. They are often sold out.

I am going to keep this short and sweet. Because honestly, its a topic that is difficult. So difficult I took the easy way out and had my wife guest author for me last year to tell you about it. You can read her post from last year here: Give Back Denver . But its important enough that I need to share.

An upcoming annual event is Josh & Gus's Run For a Reason. Josh Gove & Gus McDonald were 2 little boys that died suddenly in their sleep with no explanation. Too old to be classified as SIDS, SUDC is the lesser known affecting toddlers and children.

This year's event is Sunday, September 21st at Clement Park in Littleton. You can find the details and link to register here. You can also make a donation here.
In addition I do know that they are still looking for volunteers. Help is still needed for the event - perhaps you have a Scout group or a sports team of kids looking for some community service time- they sure could use you. They even need help hanging posters around town. If you are interested in that, Tami Gove can be reached through the main web site as well. They have had an outpouring of support from the community - including a major sponsorship from 9News and many others - all of the sponsors can be viewed here.
This event raised money to help research with SUDC and to assist families in need of support that have been affected. Josh & Gus's Run for a Reason is a celebration of Josh & Gus and all of the other children that have passed from SUDC. I hope you'll watch this slideshow and remember. Thanks Tami, for providing me with photos again so I can help you spread the word.

Its the time of year to recycle your electronic and computers. The HRCA routinely organizes this event and it couldn't be coming at a better time for
me. We did have one CPU go "Poof" this year - so it is a great opportunity to get rid of it and out of my house - in proper & safe way.
The event is free, however this time around optional donations that are suggested at $20 will be taken for the Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund or the Highlands Ranch Cultural Association. There is a nominal fee of $15 to recycle small televisions and $30 for large ones.
The computers and Electronic Recycle Event will take place in Highlands Ranch Town Center (Highlands Ranch Pkway & Dorchester) on August 23rd from 9am - 3pm. Its really quite a sight to see everything that is collected. I have now brought items over to this event 2 different times, and it has always been well organized and speedy. Round up your recyclables now and be ready - you'll be glad you did.
Some of the items that can be recycled at the event are: Computers, Lap Tops, Fa Machines, Printers, Monitors, Computer Mice, Radios, Phones, PDA's, Cell Phones, televisions (see cost for T.V.s above) and more. For a complete list, click here. More information can also be found at www.executiverecycle.com/.
If you are going to be selling your Highlands Ranch home anytime in the near future, this is a great time for you to start de-cluttering and getting all of those old electronics out now, the proper way.
The HRCA has many events like this for the community throughout the year. You can always check the HRCA website for ongoing events and they even have email alerts available now as well.
