Living in Highlands Ranch: Oktoberfest 2012

Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest 2012

Beer Mug outsideNothing like a bit of fun to start off the fall season. When you are living in Highlands Ranch there is always plenty to do and the  Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest 2012 is a perfect fall activity that is coming up.  However, don’t let the name fool you. This Oktoberfest actually takes place on September 22 at Town Center.  This one is loads of fun for everyone!  Magicians, games, live music and of course, beer!

This Oktoberfest festival has so much for everyone to enjoy.  Do you have a Dachshund?  Take part in the Annual Dachshund Races right there at the festival and compete to have your dog win the big race.  Fun, fun, fun.  Speaking of fun, here is a bonus.  Remember the July Fourth Fireworks that couldn’t happen?  It will take place to end the Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest 2012 festivities.  So get out and enjoy your favorite food from the awesome folks at Bernie’s Hot Dog Co, Helga’s German Restaurant and Deli and Snowie Colorado.  Then have a toast with some great Paulaner Beer.

Highlands Ranch Oktoberfest 5K Race

If you need to prepare yourself for all this eating, drinking and fun then get over to the Oktoberfest 5k/100 yard dash before the festivities.  This year they have added an awesome feature to the race, the optional Chug and Dash 🙂 .  After you get to the 5k finish line you have the “option” of either sprinting to the finish line if you are hard core, or you can “pause” and chug a 10 oz. beer then jog on to the finish in complete Oktoberfest style.  Nice.  If I were a runner I think I know which option sounds like fun.

Put this great event on your calendar and be sure to attend. Living in Highlands Ranch has so many benefits and these events and festivities planned through the Highlands Ranch Community Association are just some of the reasons living here is so special.  If you are considering a move to Highlands Ranch, let me help you with that process.  I live here too, know the area well and I think I can be a great fit.  Just get in touch and let’s find out.

Denver Restaurant Week 2012

Time to Make Reservations For Denver Restaurant Week

denver restaurant week 2012Have you always wanted to dine at one of Denver’s best restaurants but just couldn’t fit it into your budget?  Well, once again this year, now is your chance.

Denver restaurant week is back.  This is an opportunity to purchase pre selected meals at some of Denver’s finest and most delicious restaurants.  I have done this for the past several years and my wife and I have never been disappointed!  It makes for a wonderful date night. The selections are scrumptious and the chance to dine at some of these great restaurants is worth the price and them some. It’s a bargain at many restaurants for 2 meals for $52.80! You will get to taste why these restaurants are considered the best. Plus, I have found the selections offered for restaurant week won’t disappoint in either quality or quantity.  It really is a deal.  And once again, it is not just one week but 2. Dining dates begin February 25th and run through March 5th, 2012.

Menus will be out January 17th exclusively on the Visit Denver Facebook page and then on the Denver Restaurant week site after January 22nd.  So if you have always had the idea of a very special dinner then make sure to sign up and be ready, some of the restaurants will get completely booked up rather quickly.  And if you are just relocating to the Denver area, this is a fabulous way to get acquainted with some of Colorado’s best restaurants. Take advantage and bon appetit!

National Western Stock Show

Denver stock show rodeoHowdy Folks!  It’s just about mid January here in Denver and that can only mean one (of many) things.  It’s Denver stock show time.  Actually, it is more than halfway though the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo here in Denver, which is why you need to go and check it out.  If you have never been to a rodeo or up close with real livestock and cowboys, then you are in for a real treat!

This is the real deal.  These animals are huge, beautiful and a bit intimidating to a city slicker like myself.  Never fear, there is always the smaller animals for the kids of the more intimidated big kids.  As far as the rodeo goes, these are the best of the best competing here.  There are rodeo’s for all types of fun, including ProRodeo featuring some of the world’s best bronco and bull riders.  This is a thrill to see live if you haven’t ever seen it.  The power of the animals is stunning and the courage and strength of the riders is awesome.  The skills of the horseback riders is amazing and of course, the clowns.  They bring us a laugh but also serve a very vital role in the protection of the cowboys.  Their courage behind the mask is incredible.

The stock show has something entertaining for everyone.  Cowboy or not, it is a lot of fun!

Living in Highlands Ranch – Christmas Lights in Weatherstone 2011

I have noticed in just the past few days I am receiving a large amount of traffic to my site here from search terms like, Christmas lights in Weatherstone, House in Weatherstone with Xmas Lights, Dancing Christmas Lights in Weatherstone…. and so on. And they folks are finding posts that I wrote in previous years about the spectacular home in the Weatherstone neighborhood of Highlands Ranch on Meyerwood with a fabulous Christmas lights display that is choreographed to music.

So apparently people want to know if its up again this year, 2011.

I happen to drive by the other day, during the day, and lights were in the yard. So yes, it appears to be a go.  I will make an attempt to drive by this evening and see if they are on yet. But my guess is yes.  I will update here with more info when I have it. updated – yes, the display is on & wonderful!

I will also be posting a list of other great homes in Highlands Ranch that are decked out with lights for the holidays and all over the Denver area, so watch for that too.

Here’s a link to a public youtube video that is online (I didn’t film it) of the home in Weatherstone on Meyerwood of a past year.

Fly’N B Park | Highlands Ranch Hidden Gem

New Park is Ready for you in Highlands Ranch

I love all the parks, trails and wonderful outdoor amenities provided in Highlands Ranch. It is one of the reasons I really enjoy living here and so do thousands of others.  The Highlands Ranch Metro District takes such care and pride in providing outstanding amenities, and the newest addition is well underway and should be a true gem!

Fishing Pond at Fly 'N B Park Highlands Ranch, CO

The Fly’N B Park in the very west side of the ranch is almost ready. The plans for development of the area have been underway for quite some time, and the physical development is close to complete, for the most part. IN fact, when I first heard about the development at Fly ‘N Bee Ranch, I wrote about it.  The Fly’N B Park is a
|hidden getaway tucked in along the Highline Canal Trail and just adjacent to the Windcrest Development along C470 and Santa Fe.

Shelter and fishing dock at Fly 'N B Park, Highlands Ranch, CO

There are crushed gravel trails that loop around the park which are easy to walk along and plenty of trees and shade for the hot summer days.  Bring a picnic lunch and your fishing poles!  The park has many tables to sit and relax as well as a covered picnic shelter and fishing dock, complete with outdoor grills.  Never fear, there is a permanent port a potty as well!

Highlands Ranch has done another awesome job of developing a hidden treasure for folks to get out and enjoy. At this time, there is still part of the park to complete and I don’t know if the pond is stocked, but once it is all finished it will be great.  You can still visit and enjoy the park at this time as well as the incredible views from the trails on the west side of the park.

Grand Opening BTO Frozen Yogurt in Highlands Ranch

New Highlands Ranch Business Opens This Week

BTO Frozen Yogurt Highlands Ranch

As a Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce member, I try to get to as many business events in Highlands Ranch as I can.  Yesterday was the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for BTO Frozen Yogurt.

Owner, Jack Doyle was a terrific host for the grand opening event. Due to his generosity, part of the proceeds on March 16th will be donated to the Chelsea Hutchison Foundation. This foundation is designed to assist people living with epilepsy live more independent lives by providing seizure-response dogs and epilepsy monitors to those in need, along with providing education and support to the community. Chelsea Hutchison was a Highlands Ranch teenager, who died unexpectedly after having a seizure.

BTO Yogurt is located in the Eastridge shopping area, just east of the King Soopers. If you haven’t been to a frozen yogurt place yet, you really should try it.  There are many flavors of very delicious yogurt to choose from and tons of tasty toppings to make it a special treat.  I noticed they even have Nutella flavor yogurt. I didn’t try it, but my son LOVES Nutella and now he can’t wait to get to BTO to try some!

Living in Highlands Ranch, I am lucky to have Redstone Park and the Lebsack Tennis Center courts so close by, we can just walk there when there is an open court and play for a bit.

Here’s a quick video I shot earlier this week, before all the activity but they still look pretty nice.

The Lesback Tennis Center is located at Town Center Drive and Foothills Canyon Blvd in Highlands Ranch, CO.  Maybe I will see you over there later today!
